Russian Mayor Walks Into Chess Master’s Trap - NYTimes.com
Russian Mayor Walks Into Chess Master’s Trap - NYTimes.com: "Mr. Kasparov’s remarks began innocently enough. He made an offhand mention of Mr. Nemtsov, so subtle that it was easy to miss. Then he began to sling arrows at Moscow, saying Soviet Russia had supported Turkey at the time of the massacres."

Heavy metal song behind EU-US 'road to hell' spat : Business
Heavy metal song behind EU-US 'road to hell' spat : Business: "Prague - Mirek Topolanek, the Czech Republic's humbled premier, has conceded that his ill-timed remark suggesting the United States' measures to battle the global economic crisis would lead to 'a road to hell' were inspired by heavy metal band AC/DC. Czech media reported on Friday that Topolanek had told a television show that 'AC/DC played in Prague last week. And their cult song 'Highway to Hell' may have prompted me to use 'road to hell'.'"

In Google We Trust
In Google We Trust: "I chuckle when people tell me that they never use online services. 'Read the EULAs' they tell me. They can do anything they want with your data, don't you know! Yes, I know, and I don't really care. You see, I've sold my soul to Google. I let them know everything about me, and, in return, they give me all these super-cool web-based applications that make my life so much easier. It's a pretty good deal, if you ask me. It's not like I'm some kind of secret agent or something. For the price of my online soul, I get the Google suite: Gmail, Picasa, News, Calendar, Notebook, Bookmarks, Docs... It's great, it really is."

Full Marx for such imaginative thinking - Times Online
Full Marx for such imaginative thinking - Times Online: "Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take on more and more expensive debt, until their debt becomes unbearable.
The unpaid debt will lead to the bankruptcy of all banks, which will have to be nationalised, and the State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism.” So says the Karl Marx quote that has been whizzing round Wall Street and the City.
We seemed a step closer to that prospect yesterday. Bank shares plunged again on both sides of the Atlantic amid concern that more capital injections will be required. Bank of America shares fell 20 per cent on reports that it needed further government help to complete the acquisition of Merrill Lynch. Merrill has suffered higher than expected losses in the fourth quarter and BoA is in talks with the American authorities about an infusion of capital."
